Organization
Our client’s company is a trusted provider of colocation and connectivity services with best-in-class and sustainable digital solutions. Their first location is Germany with 10 distributed Edge data centers, followed by other data centers in the Netherlands, UK, Belgium, Spain, France, Portugal, Ireland and Switzerland.
They currently have over 30 Edge locations.
The data centers will also be integrated into a future-oriented energy infrastructure, which will contribute to a reduction of CO2 emissions in the generation, heating and gas sectors through sector coupling. In this way, the function of data centers in Europe as an innovative lever for coal reduction and a stabilizing component of a green energy infrastructure is being redefined from the ground up.
For the location in Belgium, we are looking for a Facility (Field) Engineer who, in close consultation with the Manager Operations, will contribute to the maintenance of the technical installations and infrastructure within the data centers.
Function
Assist in the correct, timely and consistent execution of activities on the equipment in the relevant data center in accordance with applicable processes and procedures:
- Assist in ensuring the safe, effective and efficient delivery of planned maintenance, complying with all standards and procedures, by deploying competent contractors/suppliers with a focus on quality.
- Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting all electrical and mechanical systems in the data center.
- Inform and brief the Chief Engineer on planned and corrective work taking place in the data center.
In consultation with the Chief Engineer:
- Supervise contractors performing work in the data center
- Be responsible for ensuring that supervised work performed by contractors/suppliers is recorded in the systems
- Assist in coordination and communication during disaster recovery activities.
- Work on 1-line equipment according to the planned preventive maintenance schedule, including a step-by-step plan approved by the Manager of Operations and/or the designated person in charge of an electrical installation
- Respond promptly and appropriately to alarms, critical situations and emergencies during normal working hours. Be responsible for communicating in a calm and clear manner and in accordance with the emergency response plan
- Take the initiative to ensure that the quality and efficiency standards for all equipment in the data center are raised. This includes finding ways to realize cost savings for the company without compromising on quality
Job Requirements
- 3 or more years of relevant work experience in data centers or other critical environments.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems used in the data center environment, including transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS and STS units, RPP units, chillers and CRAC/CRAH units.
- Electrical training/education
- Safety for operational supervisors is a plus
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English, Dutch is a plus.
- Proficient computer skills (MS Office)
- Eligible to work in Belgium without visa sponsorship
